2008 Trick Shot Magic - Semifinal #1 Mike Massey Andy Segal
![]() Segal #1 Segal - 1 Massey - 1 For the opening shot, Andy Segal chose this dexterous shot requiring a one-handed hit on the cue ball followed by picking up the first object ball after the cue ball hits it with his other hand. With the object ball out of the way, the cue ball follows through hitting the line of balls and sending the last in the combination into the corner pocket. Segal picked up a quick point, making the shot, but Mike Massey was also able to make it. Massey #1 Segal - 2 Massey - 1 Massey tried to counter with a semi-masse. The cue ball starts trapped between the rail and an object ball. The cue ball is hit in to the rail, bounces out around a blocking ball in the center of the table, and curves around to pocket the hanging ball in the opposite corner pocket. Unfortunately, Massey was unable to put any pressure on Segal, missing the shot. Segal made the necessary adjustment though, hitting it and taking the lead. ![]() ![]() Segal #2 Segal - 3 Massey - 1 Segal followed up with this juggling/speed shot. The cue ball is volleyed three rails on three separate hits. In between these, five object balls are fired into a given pocket, with the last five having to be shot left-handed and beating out the cue ball on its last journey around the table. Segal quickly dispatched of the shot, stretching his lead out. Massey couldn't keep pace though, falling behind 3-1. ![]() Segal #3 Segal - 4 Massey - 2 The 3-2-1, 1-2-3 shot was Segal's next pick. Here, the three ball is hit first, followed by the two and then the one ball, but they fall into the corner pocket in opposite, numeric order: one, two, three. Both players were able to make this one, so Segal's lead remained at two points. Massey #3 Segal - 5 Massey - 3 Trying to get back in to it, Massey chose a close quarters, rail-assisted jump shot. The cue ball is trapped in the jaws of the corner pocket. It's hit into the opposite facing of the pocket, pops out over a wall of mini shot glasses, hitting a combination set up near the middle of the short rail pocketing a ball in the corner pocket. Massey hit this shot, but Segal was equal to the challenge. ![]() ![]() Segal #4 Segal - 6 Massey - 3 Segal kept with his strategy of juggling shots with this three ball, three rail shot. The three balls are hit three rails back to near their starting point where, on the fly, they are hit three rails again this time going all the way around the table and into the corner pocket with the help of a cue. Segal stretched his lead to three as he made the shot while Massey was unable to replicate it. Massey #4 Segal - 6 Massey - 3 Massey tried this impressive table-length, one-handed jump shot to shrink the lead. Massey wasn't able to keep the cue ball on the table though and failed to pick up a point. Segal fared no better though and his lead remained at three. ![]() ![]() Segal #5 Segal - 7 Massey - 4 Segal picked out this jump/speed shot next. A pacer ball is rolled slowly toward the side pocket. Before it gets there, three other balls are quickly jumped over a row of dominos into the side pocket first. Segal accomplished the shot with ease, picking up a point. Not to be outdone too quickly though, Massey also made the shot. Massey #5 Segal - 8 Massey - 4 Testing out his own dexterity, Massey chose this hit and catch shot. Five object balls are successively jumped off the far rail and caught before being placed into the side pocket. The difficulty of the shot shone through though as both players had immense difficulty getting more than one ball in successfully. ![]() Massey #6 Segal - 9 Massey - 4 Massey picked another hit and catch shot with this jump-bank. The cue ball banks the 8 ball cross corner avoiding the double kiss by jumping in the air after the hit where it must be caught. Massey's back gave him some issues with this shot and he was unable to make the bank. Segal needed some acrobatics of his own to make the catch, but he also made the bank stretching his lead to 8-4. ![]() ![]() Segal #7 Segal - 10 Massey - 4 Picking out safer shots, Segal chose this waterfall shot, jumping three balls over a wall of three balls, followed by hitting the wall of balls directly into the pocket. If once wasn't enough, this shot requires to do it twice. Segal hit the shot easily, but Massey got a bit unlucky jumping one of the second set of balls out of the pocket. Massey #7 Segal - 11 Massey - 4 With not much to lose, Massey came out with a massive two table length draw shot. The cue ball pockets a ball in the corner, draws back off the far short rail and heads back up table, possibly with the help of the cue stick, to pocket a ball in the corner pocket. Massey got unlucky, catching the cue stick before hitting the rail. Segal kept his good fortune rolling though as he was able to make the shot, claiming it was the first time ever that he's made it. ![]()
![]() Segal #8 Segal - 12 Massey - 4 To clinch the victory, Segal picked the safe Chain Reaction Jump shot. The cue ball takes a short jump over a blocking ball setting off a chain reaction of combinations with balls on the table and on chalks all the way up the rail, knocking the last ball into the corner pocket. Segal knocked it down with ease, clinching the victory and his second chance at the Trick Shot Magic title.
