2008 ESPN Trick Shot MagicOctober 1-2, 2008 | ESPN Zone | Las Vegas, NV
The 2008 edition of Trick Shot Magic marked the introduction of newcomers Eric Yow and Mark Dimick, a former referee turned competitor. Showing little rookie nerves, Eric Yow dispatched of defending champion Stefano Pelinga in the quarterfinals 14-10. Mark Dimick also gave perennial contender Andy Segal a run for his money before falling 13-11. Mike Massey also took a two point victory of Sebastian Giumelli 7-5 while Tom Rossman defeated Lukasz Szywala 11-9. The Massey v Segal semifinal quickly turned into one way traffic with Massey nursing an ailing back. Massey got unlucky on a few close shots, but Segal ran away with an 11-4 victory. In contrast, the second semifinal of Rossman v Yow turned into a barnburner. It was a clinic in both shotmaking and showmanship which ended in a 13-13 tie. In the 8 rail bank tiebreaker, Yow launched his cue ball 9 rail right over the dollar bill and then an extra three feet beyond. Rossman took the hint and eased up on his stroke placing his cue ball within inches of the bill to earn his third consecutive (and fourth overall) trip to the Trick Shot Magic final. The Segal v Rossman final did not disappoint featuring some of the most audacious shots attempted. It was back and forth with the score even throughout. Rossman pulled away late with a few nifty shots to take his second Trick Shot Magic championship with a 13-10 scoreline.
